The collection of enterobacteria, which takes its name from its organizer, Prof. Dr. Luiz Rachid Trabulsi, is one of the highlights of this lab. The collection is a valuable material for studies of intestinal infections and diagnosis. The laboratory also has a multi-user platform for rapid tests mounting for diagnosis of lateral flux (dipstick).
The laboratory has a monitoring system for the study of animal behavior and infrastructure for image analysis, including optical and electron microscopy, fluorescence and scanning microscopy.
The laboratory deals with purification and characterization of proteins such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), fluorometers, systems for recording activity in isolated muscle preparations and in intact animals (blood pressure and temperature).
The laboratory has rooms for cell culture, tests with radioisotopes, electroencephalographic recordings, behavioral tests, inflammation studies and pharmacological and biochemical assays. It also has acclimated vivarium to keep rodents and snakes.
The Laboratory has a system for intravital microscopy experiments, with interconnected microscope to a computer with image analysis program, and pletismometers for quantification of paw edema.
Has the equipments necessary for the evaluation of pain sensitivity (behavioral tests) in animals, which are used for the selection of new compounds with central analgesic and / or peripheral activity and the study of the mechanisms involved in the analgesic effect of these substances. The laboratory also has specific tests for evaluating the motor coordination and activity, using the Open Field and rota-rod, in vitro methodologies for the study of pain cell signaling.
It has modern equipments for research in Molecular Genetics and Stem Cell studies.
With facilities necessary for the development of murine monoclonal antibodies or antibody fragments in the recombinant form, and the Laboratory is equipped for the isolation and functional characterization of toxins.
The laboratory has equipments for proteomic analysis, such as mass spectrometry systems (nanoHPLC coupled to mass spectroscopy): i) nanoLC-Acquity / Q-TOF Ultima API (Waters); ii) nanoLCUltra 1D plus (Eksigent) / LTQ-XL-ETD (Thermo); iii) nanoLC-EASY NLC II (Proxeon) / LTQ-Orbitrap Velos (Thermo) for experiments of LC-MS / MS; and a unit of genomics and transcriptomics with molecules bioanalyzer (Agilent), capillary DNA sequencer (Model 3100, Applyed Biosystems), DNA pirosequencing (model GS Junior, Roche) and genomic sequencing (HiSeq1500 Illumina), plus two multicore computer servers.
